MARY BURKETT ANNOUNCES EXPLORATORY COMMITTEE FOR UTAH'S 2nd CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT
Washington County Republican activist Mary Burkett initiates 90-day ‘Leading By Listening’ program to survey constituents in Utah’s 2nd Congressional District in advance of possible run for the seat
ST. GEORGE, UT – “Leading By Listening” is the theme for the Exploratory Committee that officially kicked off May 20, as Washington County Republican activist Mary Burkett collects opinions and surveys constituents in advance of a possible candidacy for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
As a member of the state Republican Central Committee, and member and former Vice-Chair of the Washington County Republican Party, Burkett has spent more than a decade involved in GOP politics in Utah. Activities and unrest in the U.S. House of Representatives over the past few years have prompted her to form an official Exploratory Committee to investigate a possible run for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District seat.
“This Exploratory Committee has been organized with the purpose of leading by listening, something politicians don’t do,” said Burkett. “I’ll be spending the next 90 days traveling throughout Utah’s 2nd Congressional District to listen to voters and delegates. I want to know what they expect from the member of Congress that represents them. I want to hear their ideas, their thoughts, and their feelings. Listening to each other is the only way we will ever get through the barriers we’ve set up over the past decade.”
At the conclusion of the 90 days, Burkett will make a decision about declaring her candidacy for Congress in Utah’s 2nd Congressional District.
